Feed Division Update - May 2026
PREPARE FOR ANOTHER DRY SPRING/SUMMER BY SUPPLEMENTING LIVESTOCKS NEEDS EARLY.
Dry conditions this spring have folks watching their pastures a little closer than usual. Things may be greening up, but growth is slower and less consistent than we’d like to see, especially with the lower soil moisture we’re starting with. In years like this, one of the most common instincts is to try and stretch pasture by holding off on feeding as long as possible.
By the time you decide to start supplementing your animals, pastures may have already been grazed too hard, regrowth is limited, and you’ve lost more total forage than you realize. Starting earlier puts you in a position to manage pasture pressure instead of reacting later when pastures may not recover.
Feeding early isn’t about adding more feed, it’s about using it strategically. If you’re not sure what will work for your operation, we’re happy to help talk it through. Whether it’s bulk feed such as Brewers Grain or Wheat Midds through the Commodities Division or complete feeds from our mills, we can help you put together a program that takes some pressure off your pasture and helps your forage last longer.
Call (540)434-3850 to speak with someone about available Commodities or call your local store/ feed salesman for help with Rockingham Cooperative complete feeds.
