Meet Thomas Lohr: Rockingham Cooperative’s 2025 Agronomy Intern
At Rockingham Cooperative, we believe the future of agriculture is built on strong roots - both in the soil and in our community. This summer, we’re proud to welcome Thomas Lohr, a Broadway native and student in the Agriculture Technology Program, as part of our Agronomy Division team.
Thomas grew up on a farm, which naturally led him to a passion for crops and production agriculture. His involvement in FFA helped lay the foundation, and now he’s taking the next step in his career journey by learning firsthand how agronomy services support local farms.
Throughout his internship, Thomas has been busy working alongside our agronomy team experts. From driving nurse trucks and tending loads during the busy season to working on a test plot project, he’s getting a hands-on education that goes far beyond the classroom. He’s also had the chance to learn about field consultations, equipment technology, and the customized fertilizer formulations we provide for local operations.
One of Thomas’s favorite experiences so far? Running a fertilizer buggy load to his own family’s farm. That moment gave him a personal look at how the cooperative system works from both sides of the relationship - the customer and the service provider.
When asked what he’s learned, Thomas shared that he was surprised by how unique each of Rockingham Cooperative’s agronomy locations is, and how much work happens behind the scenes to keep producers running smoothly. “The cooperative works a lot harder than people think they do,” he said. “Mixing fertilizers, applying pesticides, running equipment - everyone’s always on their feet helping producers.”
Thomas plans to complete his Ag Technology program and transfer into the Crop & Soil Science program at Virginia Tech to continue his education. His goal? To be someone who can help farmers in any way he can.
We’re proud to help support the next generation of agriculture professionals like Thomas, and we look forward to watching him grow right alongside the crops he’s learning to care for.
