Celebrating Matt Deitz and His Years of Service to our Cooperative and Community

Matt Deitz poses with Rockingham Cooperative’s mission statement.

Today we’re honoring a leader who’s shaped how we serve this community. We wish Matt Deitz the best in his retirement as Chief Operating Officer of Rockingham Cooperative.

Matt’s connection to this cooperative and our community goes way back. In 1998, he opened and ran Verona Ace Hardware, building strong customer relationships and earning respect across Augusta County. When Rockingham Cooperative acquired Verona Ace in January 2019, Matt joined our team and brought that same commitment to local service and operational excellence.

Over the last several years, Matt held key leadership roles and helped strengthen how we run things across the cooperative’s divisions. In 2023 he stepped into the role of COO, where he focused on improving operations and supporting our teams so they could deliver the best possible experience to our members and customers.

Matt’s work has impacted how we think about everyday operations and long-term growth. He’s been a steady voice in leadership discussions, a mentor to emerging leaders, and a partner to peers across the cooperative. His influence shows up in the way our stores run, how our teams work together, and how we serve communities from Harrisonburg to Waynesboro and beyond.

Matt has been a steady, trusted leader for Rockingham Cooperative, and his impact is felt across every part of our operation. From his roots at Verona Ace Hardware to his leadership as COO, Matt consistently put people, service, and the long-term health of the cooperative first. We’re grateful for his years of dedication and wish him nothing but the best in retirement.
— Sam Ligget, CEO

We’re thankful for Matt’s service, his leadership, and the way he’s championed local business and community values throughout his career. He’s helped shape Rockingham Cooperative into what it is today, and his impact will last long past his retirement.

Please join us in celebrating Matt, wishing him well, and thanking him for everything he’s done for this cooperative and the people we serve.
